This article explores the application of common corporate sick leave policies, both official and implied restrictions of taking sick days, and the impact these policies can have on the transmission of common illnesses in the work place. The author studies the productivity implications of preventable workplace transmission of common illnesses. The possible benefits of a paradigm shift in the understanding and application of alternative sick leave policies is proposed.
